Job Requirements
- u.s. citizen
- primary u.s. residency for at least three of the last five years
- must be referred for selection before 40th birthday unless exempt
- veterans’ preference eligible may not have age restriction
- successful completion of pre-academy orientation and 101-day training program at the federal law enforcement training center
- physical fitness
- ability to complete online spanish training if assigned to specific duty locations
Job Qualifications
- experience demonstrating ability to meet and deal with people and apply factual knowledge
- bachelor’s degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study from an accredited college or university
- combination of college education and general work experience
- one year of specialized work experience performing physical inspections related to criminal activity, fraud, or illegal operations
- using observational techniques and applying laws and regulations
- making determinations leading to arrests, seizure of property, or penalties
- bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one full year of graduate-level education
- combination of specialized work experience and graduate education
- previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience for GS-9 grade level consideration
Job Duties
- enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
