Job Requirements
- u.s. citizen
- primary u.s. residency for at least three of the last five years
- age restriction under 40 years old except for certain veterans or federal law enforcement employees
- successful completion of paid pre-academy orientation
- successful completion of 101-day federal law enforcement training at FLETC
- ability to pass online Spanish training if assigned to southern border, Miami, or Puerto Rico
- ability to work at various duty locations
- compliance with veterans' preference and recruitment appointment provisions
Job Qualifications
- a minimum of three years full-time general work experience demonstrating the ability to meet and deal with people and apply knowledge
- or a bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study from an accredited college or university
- or a combination of college education and work experience
- specialized full-time work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level for GS-7 considerations
- a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one full year of graduate-level education
- combination of specialized work experience and graduate education
- previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify at GS-9 grade level
Job Duties
- enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
