Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- age under 40 at time of referral unless exempt due to federal law enforcement retirement provisions
- successful completion of CBP Field Operations Academy training
- must attend and pass Spanish training for certain duty locations
- ability to complete a paid pre-academy orientation
- eligibility for federal employment
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of three years full-time general work experience demonstrating ability to meet and deal with people and learn and apply a body of facts
- or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- or combination of education and experience
- for GS-7 level, one year of specialized work experience equivalent to next lower grade level performing inspections and law enforcement duties
- or bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement or one year of graduate-level education
- combination of specialized work experience and graduate education
- previous law enforcement or military law enforcement experience for GS-9 level
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agricultural laws and regulations
- facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- determining admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- preventing illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods, and smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
