Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • two years of experience in customer service or cashiering
  • valid Texas Driver License or receipt within 90 days of relocation
  • safe driving record as measured by company policy
  • ability to sit for long periods with some standing or walking
  • ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 35 lbs
  • ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions
  • ability to communicate effectively

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or GED
  • two years' experience in customer service or cashiering
  • bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills
  • knowledge of City Ordinances related to BPUB policies and rates
  • knowledge of BPUB Open Records Policy and Records Retention Policy
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access
  • excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
  • ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions
  • ability to communicate effectively
  • ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • ability to cope with extreme cases of human behavior
  • valid Texas Driver License or receipt within 90 days

Job Duties

  • provide expertise and services to help customers obtain efficient use of utility services
  • act as a resource with internal and external customers by providing information and resolving customer service or other standard issues as they arise
  • review customer information system for customer account number and any alerts
  • answer customer inquiries
  • initiate and generate service orders
  • operate multiple types of equipment and computer software programs
  • maintain, safeguard, and provide original documents of record
  • provide written and oral summaries and reports
  • work under the Incident Command System during declared emergencies as a requirement of the position
  • complete other duties and job functions within the customer service, billing and new connections departments as assigned
  • receive and attend to the general public in person or over the phone
  • review documents for compliance with BPUB connection/disconnection policies
  • prepare detailed letters/reports as required
