Job Description

Amtrak is America’s national railroad passenger corporation, dedicated to moving the workforce and communities toward a brighter future by providing safe, reliable, and efficient rail services across the United States. Employing over 20,000 diverse and dynamic professionals, Amtrak serves as a vital transportation link that connects businesses and communities from coast to coast. With a strong commitment to safety, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence, Amtrak prides itself on offering a workplace where employees can thrive while contributing to the nation’s transportation infrastructure. The company culture emphasizes core values such as 'Do the Right Thing,' 'Excel Together,' and 'Put Customers First,' which are at the heart of everything Amtrak does. These values are further supported by essential capabilities that every employee needs to embody, including building trust, accountability, effective communication, customer focus, and proactive safety and security. By fostering an inclusive environment that values diverse ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives, Amtrak strives to honor its historic legacy while evolving into a forward-looking organization for the future.

The role available is designed for individuals ready to deliver superior customer service, supporting passengers at various Amtrak stations from behind the ticket counter, on the station floor, or on the platform itself. The position requires not only frontline customer interaction but also support functions that ensure smooth and timely train boarding and departure. The ideal candidate will be the friendly face that greets passengers, assists travelers with special needs and luggage, and provides clear and helpful information regarding schedules, fares, routing, city highlights, and other travel-related concerns. The role demands a person who can efficiently manage ticket sales including operating ticket printers and Quik-Trak machines, ensuring company funds are safeguarded, and reports are prepared accurately. Further responsibilities include making sure all passenger train boarding processes are conducted on time and in compliance with ticketing and baggage policies, maintaining cleanliness and order in the station through janitorial tasks, and handling baggage and express packages during the boarding process.

Candidates should expect to engage with a variety of customers daily, balance clerical duties, and manage equipment upkeep, making this a multifaceted role that is both dynamic and rewarding. The position supports an hourly wage range from $29.29 to $39.05, with opportunities for increases as per collective bargaining agreements. Amtrak provides a comprehensive benefits package that supports health, financial security, and work-life balance, emphasizing the importance of employee wellness and job satisfaction. With a focus on safety, Amtrak requires all employees to pass a background check, drug screening, and meet various compliance standards to ensure a secure working environment. This role at Amtrak is not just a job but a career path where employees gain respect, meaningful opportunities, and competitive compensation in a supportive, high-performance environment in New York location with some travel required.
