Job Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- must pass drug and alcohol testing mandated by the Federal Transportation Administration
- must maintain a neat and professional appearance including wearing CTA issued safety vest and uniform compliance
- ability to lift at least 35 pounds
- ability to stand for extended periods
- ability to climb stairs and balance on board inspections
- ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch to maintain station appearance and clear faregate jams
- ability to reach and handle materials for posting notices
- ability to work with noise and vibrations from moving trains
- ability to see near and far and distinguish colors
- must carry two-way radio
- must work various days and hours and travel to different locations
- aware of weather conditions
- ability to comply with safety regulations
Job Qualifications
- Customer service experience or skills
- ability to assist customers in normal and emergency situations
- ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- ability to perform basic arithmetic operations
- effective oral and written communication skills
- ability to prepare, write and submit reports concisely and accurately
- suitable temperament and disposition for maintaining amiable customer relations
- knowledge of the CTA transit system is beneficial
Job Duties
- Maintains amiable relations with customers at all times
- interacts with and effectively assists customers in normal and emergency situations
- knows and understands the Authority's transit system, fares, schedules, routes, transfer and connecting points and major points of interest
- provides special assistance to mobility limited patrons utilizing gap fillers and other aids
- monitors and coordinates station cleanliness, defective revenue equipment, or station repair needs
- ensures the kiosk is adequately supplied with current editions of reports, forms, maps, brochures, schedules, etc.
- contacts Communication/Power Control to report accidents, suspicious activity, disturbances, threats, fire, unusual occurrences or other emergencies
- inspects fare media, transit cards, passes and ID cards for validity and reports invalid material
- provides assistance in the evacuation of persons from CTA facilities and/or vehicles
- performs daily inspections of station equipment and its proper operation, e.g., elevators/escalators, Customer Call Buttons, station PA system, LED signs, ADA related equipment
- maintains knowledge and understanding of fare structure and Automated Fare Collection equipment
- advises customers who experience failed fare transactions
- monitors station turnstiles and TCVMs for illegal activity
- performs related duties as assigned
