Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not essential with appropriate experience
- One year of experience in custodial work
- Ability to lift 25 pounds independently and 50 pounds with a helper
- Ability to work standing, walking, crouching, and bending for extended periods
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions in English
- Ability to work in environments with extreme temperature and humidity
- Ability to use cleaning chemicals safely
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment
- Ability to climb stairs in multi-floor buildings
- Ability to perform manual labor
- Ability to work without direct supervision
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- One year of custodial work experience
- Experience in a multi-building custodial environment preferred
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions in English
- Ability to operate various cleaning equipment
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety practices
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and university community
Job Duties
- Perform general cleaning tasks such as trash removal, dusting, furniture cleaning, glass cleaning, pressure washing of walls and disinfection
- Perform various floor cleaning tasks including dust mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, carpet spot removal, spray buffing, burnishing, stripping, resealing, and refinishing floors
- Clean and disinfect restrooms including fixtures, showers, tubs, walls, ceilings, and floors
- Replenish paper products and soap
- Empty trash receptacles and dispose of trash into compactors or dumpsters and bag trash for proper disposal
- Perform routine maintenance of custodial equipment and supplies
- Unlock doors for cleaning secured areas and ensure they are locked after cleaning
- Move furniture involving heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds independently and 50 pounds with assistance
- Report hazardous conditions and facilities needing repair, and submit or recommend work orders
- Respond to student and user group concerns professionally and promptly
- Maintain knowledge of custodial methods, supplies, and equipment and implement them cost-effectively
- Participate in training and quality improvement teams
- Assist with light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs and adjusting furniture
- Abide by university policies and perform special assignments as directed
