Job Requirements
- At least one year of custodial or environmental services experience in a healthcare or similar residential setting
- Ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening, and registry checks
- Comply with HHSC immunization policy including vaccines for hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and influenza
- Male applicants between 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
- Ability to work flexible hours including shifts, overtime, or extended hours
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand/walk on hard surfaces for extended periods
Job Qualifications
- One year of custodial or housekeeping experience in a hospital, nursing home, residential facility, hotel, or similar setting
- Proven ability to operate custodial equipment and use cleaning chemicals safely
- Knowledge of proper cleaning, disinfecting, and floor care techniques
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately
- Strong organizational and inventory management skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods
Job Duties
- Attend work on a regular basis and follow assigned work schedules including rotating shifts or overtime as needed
- Maintain inventory and records of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and custodial equipment
- Coordinate and perform cleaning, dusting, disinfecting restrooms, patient rooms, offices, and common areas
- Ensure patient units meet or exceed cleanliness and infection control standards
- Conduct inspections of buildings and facilities to identify maintenance or cleaning needs and ensure follow-up
- Assist Custodian Manager with hospital safety and infection control programs
- Participate in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) activities as required
- Provide backup support to other custodians when necessary
