Job Requirements
- Eighth grade education
- Two years of successful experience performing essential custodial functions
- Ability to read and write in English
- Willingness to wear assigned uniform and protective clothing or devices
- Ability to work alternate shifts, weekends, and overtime
- Ability to work on campus
- Pass a background check including criminal record history
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as moving furniture and operating tools safely
- Ability to respond to emergencies and inclement weather conditions
- Membership in International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 302 bargaining unit
- Commitment to adhere to safety rules and college policies.
Job Qualifications
- Eighth grade education
- Two years of successful experience performing essential custodial functions
- Ability to read and write in English
- High school diploma or GED or post-secondary education preferred
- Three to four years’ experience performing essential functions preferred
- Two years' experience as a lead custodian preferred
- Knowledge of safety practices
- Ability to operate janitorial and maintenance equipment
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Flexibility to work alternate shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed
- Physical capability to perform custodial duties safely
- Commitment to professional development and learning
- Understanding of Facility and Operations policies and procedures
- Familiarity with emergency response duties.
Job Duties
- Display appropriate personality, attitude, flexibility, and manners to support effective teamwork amongst all co-workers
- Respond to and document actions taken on Direct line (Megamation) work requests
- Repair and maintain hand and electric powered janitorial tools and equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor polishers, and floor scrubbers
- Paint small offices and classrooms as directed
- Make rounds locking doors, closing windows, turning off lights, and replacing burned out light bulbs and tubes
- Move furniture and equipment and arrange tables and chairs for special events
- Sweep and wash sidewalks
- Perform yard and garden chores such as mowing, weeding, or raking leaves and debris
- Participate in training sessions to improve work methods, knowledge of equipment, supplies, and safety
- Maintain inventories, make simple reports, and requisition supplies and equipment
- Remove trash from assigned areas and transport to disposal site
- Sweep, dust mop, wet mop, and polish floors
- Vacuum carpets
- Clean and sanitize restrooms
- Clean and wash walls, doors, counters, etc.
- Repair and maintain assigned facilities to ensure safe and secure building conditions
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment to complete duties
- Report problems including water leaks, burned out lights, malfunctioning equipment, or damaged surfaces
- Coordinate room set-ups for college events as assigned
- Coordinate office, department, and program moves as assigned
- Maintain tools, work areas, and custodial closets in a clean and well-organized fashion
- Perform duties during emergencies and inclement weather including snow and ice removal, power failure mitigation, flood containment, and structural failure mitigation as part of the essential personnel pool
- Support other Facilities and Operations positions as needed
- Represent the Facilities and Operations department to meet or exceed customer expectations
- Remain knowledgeable of policies and procedures
- Administer safety hazard reporting and treatment
- Keep personal development current and participate in college committees as needed.
