Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • must be able to read, write, and understand English
  • must be able to follow both verbal and written instructions
  • must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching
  • must not have any type of lifting restrictions
  • must be able to work around sick and disabled patients, children and adults, within a hospital setting
  • must be a team player, able to prioritize work and handle stress
  • must be able to perform all tasks listed on the Custodian II Classification Description

Job Duties

  • Operate carpet shampooing and upholstery cleaning equipment
  • operate mechanical cleaning and scrubbing equipment
  • strip and wax floor surfaces
  • maintain entrance area by sweeping, salting, and shoveling snow as required
  • clean grounds and areas by picking up paper or trash around buildings
  • unplug commodes, urinals, and sink drains without dismantling fixtures
  • wet mop floors and stairways
  • collect and dispose of soiled linen
  • operate vacuum cleaning equipment
  • clean and wax furniture, cases, fixtures, and furnishings
  • clean mirrors, interior side of exterior glass and both sides of interior glass
  • clean toilet rooms and fixtures
  • stock restroom supplies
  • dust venation blinds
  • spot wash walls to remove marks
  • clean patient bedside equipment
  • make beds and change linen
  • collect and transport waste materials to central locations
  • report items in need of repair
  • sweep and dust floors and stairways
  • wet mop small areas to clean spills
  • maintain inventory of supplies
  • open or lock buildings or rooms
  • turn on and off lights and equipment
  • replace burnt out light bulbs
  • move and arrange furniture and furnishings
  • clean assigned area of work and equipment
