Job Description

The Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) Division of Facilities Management Southern District is dedicated to the planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and management of CDHS facilities and campuses. These facilities serve several important agencies including the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo (CMHHIP), the Pueblo Regional Center (PRC), the Division of Youth Services (including Zeb Pike, Spring Creek, and the Pueblo Youth Services Center), and four nursing homes within the southern district. Job Requirements

  • Must be a resident of Colorado at time of application and during employment
  • Must have three months of cleaning experience
  • Possess a current, valid, non-restricted Colorado driver’s license or obtain within 30 days of employment if moving from out-of-state
  • Successful completion of a physical exam including lift and range of motion test
  • Must pass a full criminal background check
  • Must pass a tuberculosis (TB) test
  • Must be willing to receive annual influenza vaccination or have a valid medical/religious exemption
  • Ability to work shift and be available for call backs
  • Willingness to travel between multiple facility sites using state vehicles
  • Must be able to handle exposure to hazardous materials and work in physically demanding environments
  • Must disclose prior state employment termination or resignation if applicable

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of three months of cleaning experience
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures, floor care including buffing and waxing
  • Ability to maintain cleaning supplies inventory and reorder appropriately
  • Experience working in facilities such as educational institutions, hospitals, or long-term care facilities
  • Experience with cleaning for mental health or locked adolescent populations preferred
  • Ability to follow schedules and meet cleaning standards
  • Valid Colorado driver's license
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, moving furniture, and snow removal
  • Experience with disinfectants and chemical cleaning products
  • Ability to maintain safety standards and comply with regulatory requirements

Job Duties

  • Performs daily cleaning, sanitizing, and servicing of assigned work areas as per schedules and procedures by use of appropriate disinfectant cleaners, chemicals and equipment consisting of sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, restroom cleaning, and other duties as assigned
  • Drives state vehicles between agency sites to provide custodial services
  • Performs daily detailed cleaning of assigned areas including washing walls, doors, frames, sills, windows, baseboards, fixtures, furnishings, ceilings, vents, and light fixtures
  • Conducts weekly project cleaning including buffing, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and sealing of hard floors and carpet cleaning using appropriate chemicals and equipment
  • Collects and disposes of trash and biohazard waste properly
  • Removes furniture and equipment to facilitate project floor work
  • Participates in moving furniture, appliances, equipment, and supplies manually or with moving equipment
  • Assists with snow removal when required
  • Maintains janitorial supplies, cleans and services equipment, and ensures chemical labeling compliance
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required
  • Responds to call backs and works shifts as needed to provide essential and emergency services
