Job Requirements

  • Must possess high school diploma or GED
  • must read, understand, and follow multi-step written and verbal instructions in English
  • must be able to perform basic math calculations
  • must demonstrate understanding of basic health standards to comply with district and state regulations
  • must be able to comply with district and state safety regulations
  • must demonstrate ability to adhere to safety practices for cleaning products and equipment
  • must demonstrate ability to follow set routines and meet deadlines
  • must demonstrate flexibility to changing work environments
  • must demonstrate ability to use district cleaning equipment and solve equipment operation problems
  • must be able to pass a physical exam
  • must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • must possess a valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license
  • must possess uncorrected or corrected visual acuity of 20/40 in both eyes

Job Duties

  • Conducts oneself in the best interest of students in accordance with the district’s mission
  • vacuums, cleans, and extracts rugs and carpets
  • cleans floors by sweeping, mopping, burnishing, and scrubbing
  • cleans, dusts, and polishes woodwork, desks, furniture, glass, and other items
  • services soap dispensers, towel boxes, and similar containers
  • empties and cleans wastepaper baskets and refuse containers
  • assists office staff with mail and deliveries
  • moves and adjusts chairs, desks, tables, supplies, furniture, and equipment
  • strips, seals, and waxes floors
  • removes spots and graffiti from floors, walls, woodwork, furniture, carpets, and fixtures
  • washes and scrubs walls, lavatory fixtures, windows, drinking fountains, drains, and light fixtures
  • operates power sweepers, burnishers, and other power equipment
  • inspects work upon completion and completes any unfinished tasks
  • follows proper cleaning procedures using chemicals and equipment safely
  • attends training courses as required
  • assists the Custodial Foreman with building maintenance
  • responds to safety and operational concerns
  • assists with cleaning and safety needs as requested
  • sets up and removes equipment for activities
  • reports maintenance and repair needs
  • secures the building at the end of shift
  • directs and escorts students, visitors, and community members
  • maintains effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents
  • complies with district policies and professional conduct codes
