Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred
  • ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • basic knowledge of chemical and cleaning product use
  • good customer service skills
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • basic record-keeping skills
  • valid driver’s license preferred
  • physical capability to perform manual labor tasks
  • reliable and punctual

Job Duties

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, shower rooms, and fixtures in accordance with established procedures and standards
  • refill restroom dispensers
  • clean whiteboards
  • sweep, mop, and vacuum floors
  • empty wastebaskets, trash, and recycle containers
  • replace light bulbs
  • dust and clean walls, doors, windows, woodwork, furniture, etc
  • clean kitchenettes, elevators, and stairwells
  • clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies
  • strip, clean, buff and apply finish to floors
  • use high-speed floor buffers/polishers
  • vacuum and clean carpets
  • use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools for cleaning and general maintenance
  • vacuum furniture, drapery, and walls
  • secure building when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows
  • report unauthorized occupants
  • follow instructions regarding use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment
  • comply with safety policies and procedures
  • report need for repairs and maintenance
  • operate high-pressure washer
  • maintain simple records and produce simple reports
  • wash vents, light fixtures, waste receptacles
  • wash interior and easily accessible exterior windows
  • perform cleaning and related duties outdoors such as snow removal or debris clearing
  • drive personal or Institute vehicles for deliveries and commuting around campus
  • perform related duties as required
  • move furniture when assigned
  • assist with basic maintenance, outdoor groundskeeping, and event preparation
  • perform other duties as assigned
