Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year custodial experience
  • Ability to perform all essential duties with limited supervision
  • Ability to follow safety procedures
  • Ability to operate and maintain tools and equipment
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and identify complex repair needs
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to apply district policies and procedures
  • Ability to respond to emergencies
  • Ability to obtain Hazardous Materials Awareness training
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification
  • May require valid driver’s license
  • Must pass pre-placement medical assessment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of prior custodial experience
  • Thorough knowledge of custodial care methods, materials, tools, and equipment
  • Knowledge of building and grounds of the assigned site
  • Basic knowledge of daily school schedules and routines
  • Working knowledge of work hazards, safe work techniques, and lifting procedures
  • Basic knowledge of chemical reactions and safety precautions
  • Sufficient reading and writing ability for reading work instructions and documenting activities
  • Strong human relations skills
  • Ability to perform duties with limited supervision
  • Ability to observe safety precautions and procedures
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and refer complex issues
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to apply district policies
  • Ability to respond to emergencies
  • Ability to obtain district-sponsored Hazardous Materials Awareness training

Job Duties

  • Clean, dust, and disinfect restrooms including floors, stalls, toilets, urinals, and fixtures
  • Remove trash and waste
  • Clean trash receptacles and replace liners
  • Replenish soap and towel dispensers
  • Clean public entry and use areas including hallways, stairways, and meeting rooms
  • Clean and disinfect drinking fountains, door handles, and door push plates
  • Sweep and mop hard floors and baseboards
  • Vacuum and spot clean carpeted areas
  • Perform regularly scheduled cleaning of classroom, laboratory, and office areas
  • Maintain safe and clean walkways and grounds
  • Pick up litter
  • Empty and clean outdoor trash receptacles
  • Rearrange, move, and set furniture and equipment
  • Assemble furniture and dispose of packaging materials
  • Set up and take down seating and equipment for events
  • Participate in major cleaning projects including carpet cleaning and floor refinishing
  • Secure internal and external doors
  • Communicate maintenance needs and document work activities
  • Check and record emergency safety equipment
  • Inspect and maintain custodial equipment
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance
  • Maintain safe working environment and follow safety regulations
  • Label secondary containers for cleaning products
  • Provide basic orientation to new custodians
  • Communicate the need for supplies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
