Job Requirements
- high school diploma or GED
- one year of custodial experience
- may require valid driver’s license
- must pass approved pre-placement medical assessment
- ability to perform physically demanding tasks
- ability to work evening shift from 1 PM to 10 PM
- ability to follow safety procedures
- ability to handle cleaning chemicals safely
- ability to communicate effectively
- willingness to submit to background check and fingerprinting
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or GED
- one year of prior custodial experience
- thorough knowledge of custodial methods, materials, tools, and equipment
- knowledge of building and ground layout of assigned site
- working knowledge of work hazards and safe techniques including lifting procedures
- basic knowledge of chemical reactions and safety precautions
- basic knowledge of fixture repairs
- sufficient reading and writing ability to follow instructions and document activities
- good human relations skills
- ability to perform essential duties with limited supervision
- ability to operate and maintain custodial tools and equipment
- ability to perform routine maintenance tasks and refer complex repairs
- ability to follow oral and written directions
- ability to work independently and collaboratively
- knowledge and ability to apply district policies and procedures
- ability to respond to emergencies
- ability to work various shifts for special projects
- willingness to obtain district-sponsored Hazardous Materials Awareness training
- ability to obtain First Aid and CPR card within reasonable time
Job Duties
- Cleans, dusts, and disinfects restrooms including floors, stalls, toilets, urinals, and fixtures
- removes trash and waste
- cleans trash receptacles and replaces liners
- replenishes soap and towel dispensers
- cleans public entry and use areas including hallways, stairways, and meeting rooms
- cleans and disinfects drinking fountains, door handles, and door push plates
- sweeps and mops hard floors and baseboards, spot cleaning as necessary and wet mopping on a regularly scheduled basis
- vacuums and spot cleans carpeted areas
- performs regularly scheduled cleaning of classroom, laboratory, and office areas including furniture, fixtures, and boards
- maintains safe and clean walkway and grounds surrounding the assigned area
- picks up litter
- empties and cleans outdoor trash
- rearranges, moves, and sets furniture and equipment in place according to established instructions and seating arrangements
- participates with others to assemble furniture and removes packaging materials
- sets up and takes down seating and equipment for various events including theater and gymnasium use
- sets up special equipment such as barriers, benches, bleachers, and floor mats
- participates in major cleaning projects including carpet cleaning and floor stripping and refinishing
- secures internal and external entry and exit doors ensuring windows and lights are locked and off
- communicates the need for maintenance services to the Head Custodian
- documents work activities and unanticipated occurrences
- checks and records emergency eye wash and shower stations, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, emergency telephones for proper functioning or stock
- inspects equipment for function and servicing and makes minor repairs
- performs routine minor servicing and maintenance such as minor plumbing adjustments, oiling of door hinges, tightening loose fixtures, repair of electrical cords, replacement of dispensers, and minor carpet repairs
- maintains a safe working environment, notifying appropriate resources of safety hazards and mitigating potential hazards
- ensures proper labeling and handling of cleaning products
- maintains current knowledge of safety and cleaning chemical usage
- may provide basic orientation to new custodians
- communicates the need for supplies and replacement components
- performs other duties as assigned to support the objectives of the position
