Job Description
The City of Salem, located in Oregon, is seeking a dedicated and dependable full-time Custodial Worker I to join its facilities organization, which operates as part of the Enterprise Services Department. Job Requirements
- Must pass the pre-employment background check and job fitness assessment
- Must have an Oregon driver’s license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards
- High school diploma or G.E.D., and two (2) years experience in custodial work indicating ability to perform duties with a minimum of direct supervision, including cleaning or minor maintenance and upkeep of work area, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions
- Must pass a criminal background check necessary to obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance and Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification within 30 days of hire (clearance must be maintained throughout employment)

Job Qualifications
- Knowledge of cleaning practices and light building maintenance
- Experience using custodial related equipment and supplies

- Knowledge of safety hazards, appropriate precautions, hazardous materials, and proper selection and application of cleaning agents for various surfaces
- Experience demonstrating eagerness, reliability, and a strong sense of dependability in daily tasks
- Excellent communication skills, to interact effectively with team members and the public
Job Duties
- Perform routine custodial tasks such as vacuuming, emptying trash receptacles, sweeping, carpet cleaning, hard-floor waxing, and related duties
- Clean and disinfect restroom fixtures, door handles, and floors, including mopping
- Responsible for the cleanup of potentially infectious materials such as vomit, urine, feces, duties may be performed in closed facilities, in public areas, or during public events
- Replace light bulbs and perform minor fixture maintenance as needed
- Work may involve exposure to moisture, dust, fumes, chemicals, and refuse
- Maintain exterior building areas, including landscaped grounds
- Tasks may include sweeping sidewalks, shoveling snow from walkways, pressure washing paved surfaces, vacuuming debris, mowing, weeding, trimming, and watering landscape features
