Job Requirements
- must pass all applicable records and background check
- must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
- this position may be designated ALPHA personnel for inclement weather or national security requiring reporting when others are excused
- must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor including unassisted lifting of supplies and equipment up to 45 pounds and assisted lifting for heavier loads
- ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English verbally and in writing with management, staff, and guests
Job Qualifications
- 6 months of experience working as a custodial or housekeeper in a Navy Gateway Inns & Hotels, hotels, hospitals, or related locations
- knowledge of cleaning procedures and proper use of cleaning equipment and approved cleaning chemicals including familiarity with Safety Data Sheets
- knowledge of how to operate all in-room appliances such as coffee maker, television, clock radio, telephone
- ability to utilize Property Management System software to update room status
- ability to accurately complete daily room status reports and housekeeping assignment sheets
- ability to apply knowledge of general cleaning procedures to complete housekeeping tasks
- ability to safely and properly use common hand and powered tools
- ability to apply sound judgment to schedule and prioritize work assignments and honor no service/do-not-disturb requests
- ability to navigate web-based Learning Management System and use software for online training
- effective communication skills in English
Job Duties
- performs varying degrees of complexity in cleaning processes
- demonstrates proficiency related to daily service, check-out, deep cleaning, and special project cleaning assignments based on lodging program cleaning standards
- vacuums, sweeps, and mops floors
- dusts, polishes, cleans, and moves furniture
- removes trash, places in dumpsters, and replaces liners
- places proper number of amenities in room including consumables/non-consumables, linen, kitchen, and bathroom items
- removes and replaces bed linen, inspects mattresses and pull-out sofas, and moves/re-positions beds upon guest checkout, weekly, or at guest request
- cleans walls, doors, ceilings, fans, light fixtures, air vents, windows, sills, tracks, blinds, and curtains
- cleans coffee makers, ice buckets, beverage kits, refrigerators, stove tops, cookware, utensils, cutlery, cups, glasses, plates, sinks, counters, ovens, ranges, cupboards, drawers, and microwaves
- ensures dishwashers are clean and operational
- cleans vanities, mirrors, hardware, cabinets, toilets, bathtubs, shower stalls, tile, and bathroom exhaust fans
- replaces bathroom terry, linens, and shower curtains
- cleans irons, ironing boards, and ensures proper function of luggage racks and availability of hangers
- cleans washers and dryers and ensures operational status
- cleans in-room guest directories, TVs, alarm clocks, and phones ensuring proper programming and cleanliness
- cleans common areas including vending rooms, ice machines, laundry rooms, elevators, break rooms, walkways, corridors, stairwells, offices, lounges, and storerooms
- performs scheduled deep cleaning including refrigerator defrosting, window cleaning, drape maintenance, furniture moving, carpet cleaning, wall and woodwork cleaning
- counts, sorts, inspects, and prepares linen
- applies Blood Borne Pathogen criteria to contaminated linens and follows appropriate NGIS protocols
- completes maintenance requests for broken or defective items
- performs considerable physical labor including standing, bending, kneeling, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, and climbing
- performs routine maintenance on vacuum cleaners
- reports unsafe, illegal, or suspicious activity to supervisor
- interacts professionally with guests and team members
- communicates with front desk regarding lost and found items
- maintains key control and reports issues immediately
