Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting fifty to one hundred pounds occasionally and frequent bending reaching and stooping
  • ability to see hear and use near visual acuity
  • reliable attendance and punctuality
  • ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • willingness to work under supervision
  • completion of any required training related to custodial work

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred
  • ability to operate cleaning equipment safely
  • knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety protocols
  • physical ability to perform heavy work duties
  • good communication skills
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team

Job Duties

  • cleans sweeps mops and scrubs floors inside and outside classrooms offices stairways corridors and lobbies
  • strips rewaxes and buffs floors using heavy duty electric scrubbers and polishers
  • vacuums and shampoos carpeted areas with vacuum equipment
  • cleans and disinfects using chemical solutions
  • refills toilet paper hand soap and paper towel dispensers in lavatories
  • dusts polishes all types of surfaces and furniture in classrooms offices and other school areas
  • empties ash trays waste baskets and refuse containers
  • lifts and moves furniture office equipment and draperies
  • places boxes and equipment in storage areas
  • cleans interior and street level exterior windows
  • shovels snow and spreads salt manually or with equipment
  • operates power equipment and stores hoses properly
  • cleans and stores cleaning equipment and supplies after use
  • removes liner and debris from floors and external grounds
  • operates refuse compactor
  • raises and lowers flags
  • removes graffiti markings
  • sets up tables and chairs in auditorium or hall
