Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in theater or performing arts, recreation management or related field
  • three years of increasingly responsible experience in cultural program development, cultural center management or theater education including one year of lead or supervisory experience
  • possession of an appropriate valid driver's license at date of application and maintenance thereafter

  • Bachelor's degree in theater, performing arts, recreation management or related field
  • three years of responsible experience in cultural program development, management or theater education including one year of supervisory experience
  • knowledge of contemporary theater issues, ethics and aesthetics
  • knowledge of theater production, management, design and education methods
  • understanding of performing arts program management
  • skills in directing and managing theater production and education programs
  • ability to prepare clear reports
  • ability to lead and review staff work
  • problem analysis and problem-solving skills
  • excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • ability to establish effective working relationships
  • possession of a valid driver's license

Job Duties

  • Creates, plans and oversees cultural activities, programs and events
  • evaluates activities, programs and events for content, techniques and special problems
  • acts as first line supervisor for designated staff including interviewing and selecting job applicants, training, overseeing work, and evaluating performance
  • ensures employees adhere to established work methods, schedules and policies
  • participates in preparation and administration of program and facility budgets, submitting recommendations and monitoring financial transactions
  • assists in developing and implementing division policies and procedures, prepares performance statistics and reports
  • monitors and maintains supplies, equipment, and inventory
  • manages daily facility operations including programs, events and security
  • coordinates and reserves rehearsal and performance space
  • oversees development of class and workshop curriculum
  • assists in selecting plays and writing scripts for educational shows
  • serves as liaison with public schools and other agencies
  • negotiates and coordinates performer and artist contracts
  • enforces facility rules and regulations
  • serves as liaison for arts programs with city departments and external agencies
  • performs marketing and public relations duties
  • researches and submits grant applications
