Culinary Specialists (CSs) serve a vital role within the United States Navy, operating and managing Navy messes and living quarters to provide high-quality meals and accommodations for Navy personnel. Recognized as the "heart of the ship," these specialists are essential in maintaining morale aboard naval vessels and shore installations. The Culinary Specialist rating is found on every ship and shore installation, reflecting the importance of their duties across Navy operations. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- completion of Navy Recruit Training
- successful completion of Culinary Specialist "A" School
- physical fitness meeting Navy standards
- ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environments
- willingness to adhere to military discipline and protocol
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Preparing menus and ordering food items in appropriate quantities
- operating and managing kitchen and dining facilities
- maintaining subsistence inventories and financial records
- serving as personal food service specialists in commanding officer and admiral messes
- managing shipboard living quarters and shore-based hotel-type accommodations
- serving as flight attendant aircrewmen when required
