Job Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Minimum three years experience supervising or cooking in a professional kitchen
  • ServSafe certified or willing to obtain certification within six months
  • Associates degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience
  • Previous experience with homeless, addicted, or mentally ill populations preferred
  • Strong Christian faith and embodiment of organization's Statement of Faith
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to handle physical demands of the role including frequent standing and lifting
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license
  • Computer literacy in basic office software
  • Willingness to work in a faith-based, service-oriented environment

Job Qualifications

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Minimum three years experience supervising or cooking in a professional kitchen
  • ServSafe certification preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Associates degree or equivalent applicable work experience
  • Affiliation with American Culinary Federation or National Restaurant Association is a plus
  • Previous experience working with homeless, addicted, or mentally ill populations highly desirable
  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and exemplifies SRM's Statement of Faith
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Extensive cooking knowledge and hands-on experience
  • Ability to instruct culinary arts through hands-on demonstration
  • Knowledge of food safety and handling practices compliant with ServeSafe and regulations
  • Ability to cook tasteful meals with attractive presentations
  • Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to promote teamwork and apply problem solving skills
  • Ability to work with diverse groups showing dignity and respect
  • Computer literate in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of 12-step programs, recovery, and mental illness preferred
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license

Job Duties

  • Assist in the training of SRM Culinary Arts students through SRM work initiatives
  • Minister, encourage, and promote growth and development of students, residents, and shelter guests
  • Facilitate teamwork, time management, and problem resolution
  • Support Culinary Arts Program students in interpersonal growth within a Christian environment
  • Prepare meals through culinary arts training to serve SRM guests, clients, and residents
  • Train and oversee various levels of volunteers
  • Communicate effectively and cheerfully with unpaid staff members
  • Ensure proper use, cleaning, and storage of equipment
  • Assist in food ordering and donations intake, ensuring proper food handling, storage, and documentation
  • Observe established health and safety standards and procedures including USDA, OSHA, and ServeSafe
  • Inspect kitchen food deliveries for freshness and quality
  • Ensure all food service documentation is correctly entered and stored
  • Prepare and submit formal and informal reports and presentations as requested
  • Support proper training and recognition of volunteers and engage them in meaningful work
  • Attend all required meetings and review SRM communications regularly
  • Adapt duties as required by management
