Job Requirements
- Must have a vehicle with reliable access
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
- Able to travel as needed
- Experience developing lesson plans
- Understanding of group dynamics
- Experience creating hands-on and engaging learning experiences
- Knowledge of young adult development, prior experience with high-risk youth preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to build relationships with program participants and colleagues
- Knowledge of career readiness skills, workforce programs, or social enterprises
- Experience teaching social-emotional skills with an anti-racist lens
- Strong knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion frameworks
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
- At least 1 year working with young adults aged 17-25, 3 or more years preferred
- Minimum 2 years experience in culinary arts or foodservice industry, management preferred
- Experience with justice-involved youth preferred
- Experience with operational duties in programs preferred
- Prior experience supervising youth or training staff preferred
- Bilingual/bicultural preferred
Job Duties
- Implements a curriculum of basic culinary skills that includes, but is not limited to: work skills, culinary arts, food preparation, and safety through on-the-job work leading to Serve Safe and Allergen certification
- Exemplifies youth work best practices to young adults and colleagues
- Completes performance reviews for all young adults in programming and communicates progress through review and check-in meetings
- Teaches and enforces basic standards of safety and use of kitchen equipment
- Coaches and encourages positive young adult progress and upholds program expectations
- Works collaboratively with other UTEC departments and programs to support young adults
- Manages attendance, daily activities, and enters data into performance management database
- Supports culinary production for young adult lunch meals
- Develops culinary, social-emotional, and social justice curricula to support youth development
- Maintains a positive work environment with high standards in food preparation, cleanliness, and skill development
