Job Requirements

  • Must be certified as ServSafe Manager at time of application
  • Five years of occupational experience in the culinary field or equivalent educational qualifications
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment
  • Physical ability to work in a commercial kitchen and on campus
  • Willingness to attend events and teach on days, evenings, or weekends
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Commitment to adhere to food safety and sanitation standards
  • Must be able to work on campus to best serve students
  • May require travel to other MCCCD locations

Job Qualifications

  • Five years of occupational experience in the field
  • OR three years of occupational experience and a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • OR a master’s degree or higher in the teaching field
  • OR a master’s degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field
  • OR a master’s degree or higher in any field with 24 upper division and/or graduate credits in the teaching field
  • Certified as ServSafe Manager at time of application

Job Duties

  • Provide primary instruction in garde manger and cold kitchen operations through lecture, demonstration, and hands-on lab facilitation
  • Teach foundational and advanced cold food preparation techniques including salads, dressings, cold sauces, sandwiches, charcuterie, pâtés, terrines, and contemporary production methods
  • Create an inclusive, structured learning environment that promotes technical proficiency, critical thinking, food safety, and compliance with health codes
  • Design, implement, and refine curriculum, syllabi, and assessments aligned with MCCCD outcomes and industry standards
  • Evaluate student performance through practical exams, written assignments, and skills assessments to improve instruction
  • Maintain availability for academic support, mentorship, and professional guidance to students
  • Participate in department, college, and district committees
  • contribute to program review, accreditation, recruitment, and industry partnerships
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain expertise and instructional quality
  • Oversee safe use and maintenance of kitchen facilities, equipment, and instructional resources
