Job Description

The Alaska Airlines Center (AAC) at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is a premier 196,000 square foot multi-purpose facility seating up to 5,000 spectators. It hosts a diverse range of events including UAA Seawolves Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Volleyball, and Gymnastics programs, as well as concerts, comedy shows, family entertainment, corporate events, and community gatherings. This venue plays a vital role in bringing together the community and offering memorable experiences. Job Requirements

  • be at least 21 years old
  • hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • possess strong physical fitness and ability to stand or walk for extended periods
  • previous experience in event security, law enforcement, or military advantageous
  • excellent observational and problem-solving skills
  • ability to handle confrontational situations calmly
  • ability to pass a background check
  • maintain flexibility to work variable hours
  • complete FERPA certification within 30 days
  • complete Title IX certification within 30 days
  • complete Behavior Based Safety certification within 30 days
  • complete Workplace Harassment Prevention certification within 30 days
  • complete annual Protecting Payment Card Information training
  • be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • active TAPS certification or ability to obtain before start
  • previous experience in event security, law enforcement, military, or related field preferred
  • strong observational and problem-solving skills
  • ability to remain calm under pressure
  • good interpersonal and communication skills
  • ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

Job Duties

  • oversee the smooth ingress and egress of attendees
  • implement emergency response protocols
  • enforce venue and university policies
  • monitor crowd behavior and intervene when necessary
  • collaborate with event staff and law enforcement
  • report incidents promptly
  • assist attendees with information and directions
