Job Requirements

  • minimum of 18 years of age
  • high school diploma or equivalent GED
  • unencumbered California Paramedic license
  • ambulance driver's license
  • medical examiners card
  • minimum 3 to 5 years ALS experience as a field paramedic
  • current BCCTCP/IBSC Critical Care Paramedic Certification or obtain per local operations timelines
  • successful completion of CA approved Critical Care Paramedic course or equivalent
  • California state driver's license with compliant driving record
  • ACLS, PALS, and BLS provider cards
  • neonatal resuscitation provider or obtain within 6 months
  • PHTLS provider with advanced trauma skills or equivalent
  • ability to pass physical agility test
  • other certifications/training as required by local agencies
  • completion of EMS agency approved training for ALS and CCP scope
  • excellent communication and customer service skills
  • ability to work cooperatively with employees and medical agencies
  • ability to read, interpret documents and write reports

  • neonatal resuscitation provider (NRP) card or obtain within 6 months
  • PHTLS provider with advanced trauma skills pack or equivalent
  • ability to pass a physical agility test (PAT)
  • completion of EMS agency approved training for ALS and CCP scope
  • excellent communication and customer service skills
  • ability to work cooperatively with other employees and medical agencies
  • ability to read and interpret required documents and write reports and correspondence

Job Duties

  • perform all essential duties and responsibilities of a 9-1-1 paramedic
  • utilize medical equipment including defibrillator, EKG monitor, ventilators, IV pumps, hemodynamic monitoring devices, advanced airway adjuncts/procedures, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids and medications
  • utilize and interpret common laboratory reports
  • manage complicated pharmacological infusions
  • perform treatments and procedures at a Paramedic CCT certification level per local policies
  • lift and move patients as required for care
  • communicate with receiving facilities for medical direction and critical information
  • communicate with dispatch to receive and understand call data and customer feedback
  • assist with ambulance cleaning inside and outside per safety guidelines
  • accurately document all patient assessments and care for billing
  • follow policies on out-of-chute and turnaround times
  • work past scheduled shift end time with little or no notice
  • read medication/prescription labels and usage directions accurately and quickly
  • discern changes in patient eye and skin coloration due to condition or treatment
  • negotiate with customers regarding additional services like return transport
  • meet and communicate with existing and new customers and staff including skilled nursing and hospital facilities
  • participate in community programs to maintain company image and relations
