Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum three years of cooking experience in culinary program or fine dining
  • Ability to stand and walk 100% of the shift
  • Capacity to continuously reach, bend, lift, stoop, or wipe during shift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push 75 pounds
  • Tolerance for excessive exposure to heat, cold, and water
  • Ability to work standing for up to 9 hours
  • Physical stamina to work 50 to 60 hours per week
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand basic cooking directions
  • Team player with knife skills and cleaning capabilities

Job Qualifications

  • Three years cooking experience preferably in a culinary program or fine dining
  • Knowledge of kitchen utensils and tools
  • Strong knife skills including cutting and chopping
  • Basic cleaning skills
  • Familiarity with a range of ingredients and their uses
  • Ability to take criticism positively and work swiftly
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to understand and follow basic cooking directions
  • Ability to weigh and measure using Imperial units
  • Strong common sense and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to taste and smell food during preparation

Job Duties

  • Interchangeability between all kitchen stations
  • Perform cooking techniques such as broiling and sautéing
  • Understand and operate all kitchen equipment
  • Demonstrate knife skills including cutting, chopping, carving, and dicing
  • Maintain station hygiene and sanitation
  • Comply with safety rules and regulations
  • Receive direction from chef and other cooking staff
  • Prepare food including washing, mixing, and rinsing
  • Use kitchen tools like knives and paring knives in food preparation
  • Observe all safety procedures
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area
  • Prevent food waste
  • Rotate stock to maintain freshness
  • Inform supervisors of low supplies or equipment issues
  • Organize pantry and keep kitchen orderly
  • Clean work areas, equipment, and utensils
  • Butcher and clean fish, poultry, meat, and shellfish
  • Use manual or electric appliances to clean, peel, slice, and trim food
  • Stir and strain soups and sauces
  • Prepare and present cold foods such as salads and cold soups
  • Fill in at other stations as needed
  • Manage inventory and presentation of food items
  • Work effectively in a team-oriented environment under stress
  • Report suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions
  • Ensure food preparation and serving align with recipes and standards
