Job Requirements

  • valid driver’s license
  • completion of HC Defensive Driving course and/or Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) prior to operating county vehicle
  • must report to or remain at work during inclement weather and administrative closings when required
  • experience working with underserved, vulnerable, or homeless populations
  • experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • graduation from accredited medical school
  • state of Tennessee medical license and DEA registration
  • completion of residency in Family Practice or Internal Medicine
  • board certified or eligible in Family Practice or Internal Medicine

  • strong skills in patient counseling, clinical mentorship, customer service, and communication
  • ability to provide culturally sensitive care to diverse populations
  • preferred study in Family Practice

Job Duties

  • provides focused care for children, adolescents, and adults including primary care, sick care, and well patient checkups
  • diagnoses and treats diseases and injuries
  • orders medical tests and reviews test results
  • provides patient counseling and appropriate referrals
  • delivers direct medical care to underserved populations
  • provides strategic clinical leadership and oversight for individuals experiencing homelessness
  • develops clinical policies and mentors medical staff
  • ensures compliance with Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) standards
  • promotes trauma informed care and manages quality improvement
  • collaborates with community partners to address social determinants of health
  • supports epidemiological and emergency response activities
  • assists County Health Officer with clinical and administrative tasks
  • maintains clinical files, records, and credentialing
  • performs internal audits of medical charts
  • establishes and updates medical policies and protocols
  • develops liaison activities with community health providers and local specialists
  • provides medical leadership for Health Department committees
  • recruits, trains, and mentors physicians, nurse practitioners, and clinical staff
  • delivers clinical updates and presentations
  • provides medical backup to County Health Officer and other physicians
  • supervises nurse practitioners and provides counseling on wellness and preventative care
  • may provide after-hours call coverage
  • promotes childhood immunizations
  • performs other related duties as assigned
