Job Requirements

  • experience in california state service as a cook specialist ii or equivalent supervisory experience
  • completion of twelfth grade or equivalent
  • ability to supervise and train staff and incarcerated workers
  • knowledge of dietary requirements and therapeutic diets
  • ability to enforce compliance with correctional and food safety regulations
  • pass the required examination
  • valid email address for communication
  • availability to work full-time
  • participation in personal leave program 2025

Job Qualifications

  • one year of experience in california state service performing duties of a cook specialist ii
  • or two years of supervisory experience over cooks and food service workers
  • equivalent to completion of twelfth grade
  • successful completion of the required examination through calcareers
  • knowledge of food safety regulations
  • leadership and supervisory skills

Job Duties

  • supervise and train staff and incarcerated workers responsible for meal preparation in correctional health care facilities
  • oversee preparation and dispensing of therapeutic diets according to physician orders
  • ensure compliance with departmental and institutional policies including Title 15, Department Operations Manual, California Code of Regulations Title 22, Diet Manual, California Retail Food Code, and Food and Nutrition Services Manual
  • supervise cleaning and sanitation of kitchen facilities and equipment
  • maintain order and supervise conduct of incarcerated workers
  • protect and maintain safety of persons and property
  • enforce food safety and sanitation standards
