Job Requirements

  • possession of minimum qualifications as defined by the California state classification
  • ability to pass a background investigation including Live Scan fingerprinting and tuberculosis testing
  • willingness to comply with all correctional facility policies and procedures
  • ability to work full time in a correctional kitchen setting
  • graduation from high school or equivalent
  • submission of an official or unofficial transcript if qualifying by education
  • possession of a valid email address for communication
  • acceptance of training and development assignment eligibility if applicable

Job Qualifications

  • experience in supervising kitchen staff or inmate crews
  • knowledge of food preparation and sanitation standards
  • familiarity with correctional facility security protocols
  • ability to maintain records and reports accurately
  • effective communication and leadership skills
  • willingness to work in a correctional facility environment

Job Duties

  • supervise and instruct inmate cook crews in meal preparation, cooking, and serving according to standardized recipes and weekly menus
  • supervise preparation of sack lunches, fresh fruits, and vegetables
  • maintain sanitary standards of the kitchen and kitchen equipment
  • complete requisitions reports, refrigerator temperature checks, and log sheets
  • maintain security of the kitchen doors at all times
  • enforce kitchen policies and procedures among inmates under supervision
  • perform other related duties as directed by supervising correctional cook or food management
