Job Requirements

  • Possession of minimum qualifications verified prior to interview or appointment
  • submission of unofficial transcripts or diploma if qualifying by education
  • successful completion of background investigation including Live Scan Fingerprinting
  • tuberculosis testing and ongoing annual testing
  • use of valid email for communication
  • ability to report to the work location in Stockton, California
  • adherence to confidentiality regarding personal information on application documents
  • ability to meet physical demands and work conditions of a correctional facility kitchen
  • willingness to support department’s mission of rehabilitation and public safety

Job Qualifications

  • Possession of the required minimum qualifications as stated in the Correctional Supervising Cook classification specification
  • knowledge of principles and procedures related to food preparation, storage, and serving within correctional facilities
  • formal culinary training preferred
  • experience in supervising kitchen staff and incarcerated workers
  • ability to communicate effectively
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • experience with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) programs
  • ability to train and teach incarcerated individuals in culinary skills and safe equipment use

Job Duties

  • Supervise the daily operations of the correctional kitchen
  • train and oversee incarcerated workers in food preparation, safety, and equipment use
  • ensure compliance with food handling sanitation and safety standards including HACCP programs
  • organize work assignments and schedules for kitchen staff and inmates
  • maintain kitchen cleanliness and sanitation
  • enforce security protocols within the kitchen
  • collaborate with healthcare and department personnel to support food service operations
