Job Requirements

  • Experience performing the duties of a Cook Specialist II or equivalent supervisory experience
  • Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent education
  • Willingness to travel as required
  • Ability to work full-time in a correctional facility environment
  • Valid background clearance including Live Scan fingerprinting and tuberculosis testing
  • Possession of minimum qualifications as verified by documentation
  • Ability to submit application and required documents by the final filing date
  • Availability for possible extension or permanent appointment
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements on application documents

Job Qualifications

  • One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Cook Specialist II (Correctional Facility) or a Cook Specialist II
  • Two years of supervisory experience over cooks and food service workers with responsibilities in preparation, cooking, and serving food
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
  • Ability to promote an equitable and inclusive workplace
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations

Job Duties

  • Supervise and direct cook staff in food preparation and service
  • Receive, store, rotate, prepare, and rethermalize food
  • Ensure proper quantity, quality, and appearance of food items
  • Coordinate food service activities with other correctional supervising cooks
  • Travel as required to support food service operations
  • Enforce adherence to food safety and sanitation standards
  • Assist in training and evaluating food service staff
