Job Requirements

  • possession of minimum qualifications as stated in the class specification
  • pass background investigation including live scan fingerprinting
  • complete tuberculosis test and ongoing annual evaluations
  • ability to report to work at California Health Care Facility
  • have a valid email address for communication

  • foreign education must have equivalency verification
  • meet minimum qualifications with unofficial transcripts if education is used

Job Qualifications

  • knowledge of food handling sanitation including hazard analysis and critical control point programs
  • ability to communicate effectively
  • knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safety measures
  • ability to train incarcerated workers in food handling and preparation
  • knowledge of culinary tools and equipment maintenance
  • formal culinary training preferred
  • military food service experience is an asset
  • willingness to promote inclusivity and diversity in the workplace

Job Duties

  • supervising cooks and incarcerated workers in food preparation
  • ensuring compliance with food sanitation and safety regulations
  • training incarcerated workers in kitchen safety and proper food handling
  • managing the care and maintenance of kitchen utensils and equipment
  • overseeing the storage, preparation, and serving of food
  • collaborating with other departments and agencies to meet rehabilitative program goals
  • enforcing compliance with hazard analysis critical control point programs
