Job Requirements

  • Satisfactorily complete an ODOC background investigation
  • Pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check
  • No evidence of substance abuse
  • Subject to testing for prohibited drug use
  • Acceptable work experience documented in application
  • Complete Statement of Personal History
  • Pass pre-employment medical exam and psychological evaluation
  • Ability to comprehend, write reports, and retain information
  • Meet physical and mental fitness requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • United States citizen
  • Pass the NTN test with a minimum score of 70 percent in all areas
  • Proficient with computer use
  • Possess valid driver’s license
  • Pass psychological evaluation and risk assessment
  • Good employee work history
  • History of law-abiding behavior
  • Meet DPSST physical standards

Job Duties

  • Maintain order within the institution
  • Enforce rules and regulations
  • Provide care and ensure safety of adults in custody
  • Conduct cell checks and searches for contraband
  • Settle disputes and enforce discipline
  • Monitor and supervise activities and work assignments of adults in custody
  • Inspect and report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards
