Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
  • one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services or commercial food service management or as a Correctional Officer
  • must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission
  • ability to work any shift including rotating, fixed, or split shifts
  • ability to perform supervisory duties over offenders
  • effective verbal and written communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
  • one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, management of commercial food service operations, or experience as a Correctional Officer
  • eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission
  • strong communication skills
  • knowledge of food service sanitation and nutrition
  • ability to manage inventory and ordering processes

Job Duties

  • Working a dual role of both supervising offenders and providing food production training
  • supervising offenders in their assigned food preparation and food service work areas including cooking, baking, and serving food to the offender population
  • maintaining food service equipment and adhering to menu specifications
  • ensuring sanitary food handling and knowledge of nutritional values
  • managing inventory levels with proper rotation and timely ordering of food and cleaning supplies
  • effectively communicating operational instructions in both verbal and written forms
