- high school diploma or equivalent
- completion of Company Orientation and food safety and sanitation training upon hire
- knowledge of computer systems and equipment
- strong customer service skills

- ability to function in a fast-paced retail environment
- ability to perform detailed and precise tasks
- ability to lift and manage heavy items (up to 55 lbs depending on department)

Job Duties
- provides superior customer service
- takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
- answers customer questions regarding products
- assists them with selections
- prepares, packages, and merchandises fresh product effectively
- slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
- assists in technical areas as needed
- uses suggestive selling techniques and basic product knowledge to meet customer needs and build department sales
- cleans and sanitizes display cases
- operates and maintains equipment properly
- complies with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
- complies with department and store operating procedures
- records production and shrink to aid in production planning
- assists in technical areas such as baking, frying, and decorating
- culls bakery products for poor quality and expiration dates
- takes care of service counter customers
- uses ordering system applications
- uses Fresh Production Planner
- performs inventory management processes
- ensures catering orders are prepared and ready in time for customer pickup
- performs all sanitation and maintenance tasks for deli slicers
- serves and packages products at customer requests
- educates customers on preparation and reheating instructions of prepared foods
- prepackages condiments for prepared food items
- cuts, slices, dices, chops food in preparation for chef
