Job Requirements
- Must maintain compliance with Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry policies throughout employment
- Ability to work in a pastoral and collaborative work environment
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural parish serving various cultures and age groups
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with staff, clergy, and laity
- Ability to operate word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software
- Ability to organize, prioritize and use effective time management
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work well with constant interruptions
- Ability to carry out multiple tasks, meet deadlines and implement creative solutions
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish (writing, reading, speaking, presenting)
Job Qualifications
- Formal catechetical training and formation such as Level 1-2 catechist certification and/or equivalent experience
- One full-time year or two part-time years of experience working or volunteering in a Catholic parish, school or diocese with elementary to intermediate-age children
- Knowledge of or experience with OCIA adapted formation
- Two years of parish experience required
- Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing
- Valid Texas driver’s license
Job Duties
- Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Helen Catholic Church in both professional and personal life
- Research, develop and propose a comprehensive curriculum for middle school students according to the Religious Education Guidelines and Evangelization Catechesis Manual of the Diocese of Austin
- Coordinate middle school events including offsite and overnight retreats
- Develop and propose sacramental preparation curriculum for middle and high school students
- Collect and compile necessary documentation for sacramental preparation and record keeping
- Communicate with families through in-person and parish platforms weekly and monthly
- Schedule faith formation catechist meetings
- Recruit, train, support, manage, coach, evaluate and supervise catechists and volunteers
- Ensure compliance with VIRTUS, Safeguard the Children and Empowering God’s Children programs
- Manage books and supplies for ministry programs
- Maintain availability to serve parish needs, including evenings and weekends
- Perform other duties as assigned
