The Division of Student Life at the University of Iowa is a vibrant and dynamic department dedicated to fostering student success by providing a wide range of educationally purposeful services and activities within and beyond the classroom. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social sciences, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • work experience of typically 6 months or more in higher education in advising, developing, coordinating, and evaluating student life programs, preferably fraternity and sorority life
  • extensive understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques
  • experience creating and maintaining a welcoming and respectful environment
  • knowledge of relevant fraternity and sorority national umbrella organizations
  • experience with Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and/or Panhellenic Council
  • willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • demonstrated working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social sciences, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • work experience in higher education in advising, developing, coordinating, and evaluating student life programs, preferably fraternity and sorority life
  • extensive understanding of effective communication concepts and techniques
  • experience creating and maintaining a welcoming and respectful environment
  • knowledge of fraternity and sorority umbrella organizations
  • experience with IFC, MGC, NPHC, and/or PHC
  • willingness and ability to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Student Development, or related discipline is desirable
  • affiliation with an international fraternity or sorority is desirable
  • extensive event planning and programming experience is desirable
  • experience in negotiating contractual agreements is desirable
  • knowledge of assessment methods and program evaluation is desirable
  • knowledge of budgeting and financial management is desirable

Job Duties

  • Advise and support governing councils and chapters
  • provide leadership education and development
  • advise and develop student leaders and organizations
  • manage communications and marketing strategy
  • coordinate crisis response and student support
  • foster partnerships and external relations
  • ensure policy education and compliance
  • supervise and develop student staff
  • manage data, reporting, and fiscal practices
