Job Requirements
- First Aid certification required with prerequisite of hire or compliance within 14 days
- Oxygen Certification required with prerequisite of hire or compliance within 14 days
- Basic Life Support certification required with prerequisite of hire or compliance within 14 days
- Y Lifeguard and Y Lifeguard Instructor Certification required with prerequisite of hire or compliance within 14 days
- YUSA Team Leader Certification recommended
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in recreation or sports management or equivalent experience
- Minimum six months experience in a related field
- Ability to differentiate between colors red, yellow, blue, and green
- Ability to swim 500 yards in 12 minutes or less with 400 yards crawl and 100 yards breaststroke
- Excellent human relations skills with ability to maintain consistent communication with staff and members
- Ability to make solid decisions in emergency situations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including telephone etiquette and computer use
- Prior experience supervising staff and volunteers preferred
Job Duties
- Work closely with the Director to ensure department operations align with approved Leading Practices
- Supervise lifeguarding staff including hiring, onboarding, role-modeling, coaching, scheduling, certification management, and ongoing development
- Serve as first responder within the branch
- Recruit and manage volunteers according to current Volunteer Policies and Guidelines
- Schedule appropriate staffing levels for aquatics programs, special events, and open swim times
- Monitor and report on drill performance and overall emergency response readiness of lifeguard team
- Oversee scheduling, supplies, and budget for lifeguarding and assigned aquatic and safety classes
