Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year work experience directly related to the duties described
  • skill in working with professional kitchen appliances and equipment

Job Duties

  • Prepares and cooks a variety of menu items
  • works alone or with assistance of higher-grade cook or supervisor
  • follows recipes to prepare soups, stews, casseroles, gravies, sauces, hot cereals, syrups, meatloaf, meatballs, hamburgers, croquettes
  • adjusts recipes for quantity
  • roasts a variety of meats including beef, pork, veal, lamb, fish, poultry
  • grills and deep fries foods
  • broils and steams foods
  • slices meat by hand and mechanical means
  • apportions foods for family style and plate service
  • prepares vegetables and cold food platters
  • makes salads and salad dressings
  • makes sandwiches
  • prepares eggs in various ways, French toast, pancakes, crepes
  • makes coffee, tea, fruit drinks
  • follows health and safety precautions
  • monitors and maintains food temperatures
  • brings foods from preparation area to refrigerators or serving area
  • picks up items for menu preparation
  • rotates inventories
  • takes inventory to determine orders
  • loads hot foods in carts
  • sets up and serves food
  • checks food preparation, temperature, packaging
  • operates kitchen equipment
  • uses and maintains power kitchen equipment
  • keeps utensils cleaned and ready
  • maintains cleanliness of working area
  • maintains personal hygiene
  • performs other duties as assigned
