Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Organize, cook, and prepare all meals in accordance with menu guidelines
  • implement menu plans as developed by the Nutritionist according to prescribed individualized diets
  • prepare food in appropriate quantities
  • follow agency guidelines/policies in regard to staff meals and snacks
  • maintain sanitary procedures for storing and handling food according to agency standards
  • ensure correct and appropriate storage of all supplies
  • date and inventory all purchases of food and household supplies
  • ensure proper food and supply availability as called for by the menu
  • maintain weekly food orders
  • utilize comparison-shopping techniques to ensure cost effectiveness
  • receive food and household supplies and verify purchase requisitions and deliveries
  • maintain required records, submit reports, and track inventory supplies
  • participate and demonstrate proficiency in meal planning and in-service training with nutritionist as needed
  • assist individuals and participate in family style meals
  • clean the residence according to agency standards including disinfecting bathrooms, sweeping, mopping floors, wiping walls and countertops, vacuuming, dusting furniture, defrosting and cleaning refrigerator and freezer, and maintaining cupboards
  • maintain prior menus and tested recipe files
  • consistently follow procedures for cleaning all equipment and work areas
  • responsible for mending consumers clothing
  • ensure all safety and well-being measures for consumers are maintained
  • follow infection control procedures in consultation with Nutritionist and Residence Nurse
  • be familiar with emergency procedures and participate in fire evacuation drills ensuring consumer safety
  • launder consumer clothing, bed linens and towels
  • fold and put away linen, towels and clothing
  • change linen and make beds as outlined in facility procedure
  • ensure adequate supply of soap and paper towels in kitchen and bathrooms
  • maintain proper number of dishes, utensils, linens, towels in the residence
  • attend and participate in weekly staff meetings
  • participate in scheduled in-service training and individual reviews
  • participate in ongoing implementation of basic life skills training and program implementation
  • assist and support consumers in household chores
  • physically intervene with consumers to prevent injury and administer emergency first aid
  • communicate relevant information to staff or supervisor, completing appropriate logs and incident reports
  • participate in supervisory sessions
  • demonstrate cooperation and respect in dealing with consumers, families, visitors, peers, subordinates and supervisors
  • follow agency policies and procedures
  • adhere to laws and regulations set forth by governmental bodies including OSHA, Dept. of Sanitation, Dept. of Health, OMRDD
  • follow the facility's specific responsibilities and duties list
  • adapt to work schedules and locations subject to change
  • perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor
