Job Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent
  • some previous experience cooking for large groups
  • knowledge of school lunch program
  • ability to lift and move cartons and trays weighing up to 25 lbs
  • able to stand for extended periods
  • able to work in hot kitchen environment
  • able to safely use knives and kitchen utensils
  • able to follow safety and hygiene protocols

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • some advanced coursework in nutrition preferred
  • previous experience cooking for large groups
  • knowledge of school lunch program
  • ability to follow special dietary instructions
  • teamwork and supervisory skills
  • familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment and safety standards

Job Duties

  • Review menu plans and determine quantities sufficient for meal preparation
  • complete preliminary food preparation tasks such as paring vegetables and slicing meats
  • prepare a variety of meal items including baked goods, meats, and vegetable dishes
  • set up lighter meals such as cereals, sandwiches, and fruits
  • perform daily cleaning of appliances, utensils, floors, and kitchen area
  • monitor equipment and utensil levels regularly
  • train and assist other cooks in completing kitchen duties
  • document and calculate meals served daily and monthly
  • process claim reimbursements and required paperwork
  • adhere to standards of conduct in the kitchen
  • assist in ordering and stocking food
