Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or general education diploma (ged) preferred
  • 1 year cooking experience in a professional food service environment
  • possess current food handler permit before employment
  • ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, students, and parents
  • ability to read, analyze, and apply understand and to carry out instructions in written or oral english
  • ability to learn and use software as necessary (pos, clock in and out etc.)
  • ability to use basic office equipment
  • ability to perform basic arithmetic operations
  • must be able to stand and walk for entire shift
  • required to reach, balance, stoop, kneel, twist and bend often
  • must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles
  • extreme cold and extreme heat
  • criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable
  • must be eligible to work in the united states and provide work authorization

Job Qualifications

  • 1 year cooking experience in a professional food service environment
  • possess current food handler permit before employment
  • ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions
  • knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures
  • capable of operating small and large kitchen equipment and tools

Job Duties

  • general kitchen tasks
  • take the lead in preparing all menu items according to recipes and keep accurate count and record of food prepared
  • complete pre-preparation for meals as required
  • check and report the availability of food and supplies for advanced food preparation for the week
  • cook food items adhering to usda/tda meal patterns guidelines
  • properly use and maintain equipment in the preparation and service of meals and report any malfunctions to cafe manager
  • serve food according to meal schedules and food safety policies and procedures
  • store and handle food items and supplies according to policies and procedures
  • maintain the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen
  • operate tools and equipment according to safety standards and follow established policies and procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health and safety
  • keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary
  • follow all industry standard guidelines for food safety and sanitation
  • maintain good personal appearance and hygiene according to food safety policies and procedures
  • always adhere to professional conduct
  • ensure counting and claiming process are followed according to usda/tda guidelines
  • handle and record cashier functions accurately and timely
  • help record and maintain daily food production worksheet
  • promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members
  • provide great customer service
  • complete annual continuing education and training
  • attend monthly training
  • complete assignments in a timely, efficient manner
  • assist in the daily clean-up of the kitchen area and equipment
  • assist in the major cleaning of refrigerators, freezer, and storage areas at regular scheduled intervals
  • if assigned, carry out other specific kitchen tasks (e.g. dishwasher, cashier, cleaning, and push meals to other areas of school etc.)
