Job Requirements

  • Must meet the barely acceptable level on both screen-out elements (ability to supervise and aptitude for work with prisoners)
  • supply detailed information on resume to support assessment responses
  • possess approved Food Protection Manager Certification from an ANSI-accredited provider
  • electronically upload certification at time of application
  • current BOP employees in Cook Supervisor, WS-7404, position considered to have met selective factor
  • meet qualifications as per Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, WS-7404 series
  • demonstrate ability to prepare, cook, and coordinate food preparation for institutional settings
  • comply with sanitation and safety regulations

Job Qualifications

  • Sufficient training and experience to perform the duties of the position
  • demonstrated ability to supervise
  • aptitude for work with prisoners
  • thorough knowledge of food preparation principles and techniques
  • knowledge of large quantity cooking procedures
  • familiarity with special and modified diets such as high protein, low cholesterol, low fat, calorie restricted, and sodium restricted diets
  • possession of Food Protection Manager Certification from an ANSI-accredited provider

Job Duties

  • Independently prepare all types of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, fruits, sauces, and gravies for regular and modified diet menus
  • prepare, cook, season, and portion food for all meals by following standardized recipes
  • plan and prepare or coordinate the preparation of entire meals
  • make substitutions and adjustments in food preparation procedures and seasoning
  • supervise kitchen staff and ensure compliance with food safety standards
  • monitor inventory and order supplies as needed
  • enforce sanitation and safety protocols within the kitchen environment
