Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Meet CTAP or ICTAP eligibility criteria if applicable
  • Submit appropriate documentation supporting eligibility
  • Provide detailed resume supporting assessment responses
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment interview, urinalysis, physical exam, and background investigation
  • Pass screening related to NCIC and credit check
  • Complete qualification inquiry regarding misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence
  • Complete Core Value Assessment with passing score
  • Successful completion of "Introduction to Correctional Techniques" training course
  • Possession of Food Protection Manager Certification
  • Ability to independently prepare various food types
  • Commitment to a 1-year probationary period
  • Ability to travel occasionally
  • Compliance with special conditions of employment
  • Meet selective factor requirements
  • Submit all required documentation including veterans’ preference if applicable

Job Qualifications

  • Sufficient training and experience in food preparation
  • Ability to supervise inmate workers
  • Knowledge of food preparation principles and large quantity cooking procedures
  • Familiarity with special and modified diets such as high protein, low cholesterol, low fat, calorie-restricted, and sodium-restricted diets
  • Food Protection Manager Certification accredited by ANSI
  • Ability to independently prepare various meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, fruits, sauces, and gravies
  • Aptitude for work with prisoners
  • Technical practices relevant to correctional food service

Job Duties

  • Provide supervision and instruction to 25-30 inmate workers assigned to food preparation roles
  • Provide continual training to inmate workers to update knowledge on production, presentation, and sanitation of food
  • Oversee receiving, storing, and issuing of all food and non-food items
  • Manage security operations including key control, yeast control, knife and blade control, and inmate accountability
  • Conduct routine contraband searches throughout the work area
  • Maintain overall security of the institution as part of the correctional staff
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
