Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Suitable for federal employment as determined by background investigation
- Successful completion of urinalysis drug screening prior to appointment
- Selective service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
- Completion of all application requirements including submission of resume
- Commitment to serve a 1-year probationary period
- Ability to handle physical demands including standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 40 lbs unassisted and heavier loads with assistance
- Compliance with federal hiring policies and procedures
- Adherence to safety and sanitation standards
- Willingness to work Monday to Friday 11:00am to 7:30pm
- No relocation or travel required
Job Qualifications
- Evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of the position
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and ability in dexterity and safety
- Ability to interpret instructions and specifications (other than blueprint reading)
- Experience in leading or supervising work functions
- Knowledge of materials management
- Understanding of technical practices related to cooking and food production
- Competence in using and maintaining tools and equipment
- Adherence to standard work practices
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage a food production team
Job Duties
- Independently coordinating/directing the operation of the food service/production areas using standards, procedures, diet manual, modified menus and production sheets to guide the work
- Plans on a weekly or monthly basis to establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors
- Coordinates work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other supervisors
- Prepares performance requirements and work schedules in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Provides technical direction and training when scheduling work operations with complex work steps and processes
- Investigates work related issues such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes
- Develops, documents and evaluates standards of work performance in development of performance plans
- Observes subordinate employees' work and ability to follow instructions, provides suggestions and guidance as required
- Monitors work to assure that subordinates use all sanitation and safety precautions and enforce safe work practices
- Works independently to prepare and cook a variety of items including regular and therapeutic diet (diabetic, low sodium, low protein, gluten free, etc.) entrees and dessert items
- Uses a variety of methods to prepare meats, fish, and poultry including broiling, roasting, baking, frying, boiling, steaming, stewing, braising, and grilling
