Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • successful completion of the Cook Specialist II examination
  • valid tuberculosis risk assessment or test
  • fingerprint clearance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice
  • ability to work scheduled hours Monday through Friday
  • willingness to comply with drug and alcohol testing policies
  • ability to perform physical tasks associated with cooking and food preparation

Job Qualifications

  • completion of the examination to obtain list eligibility for the Cook Specialist II classification
  • knowledge of safe food handling techniques and practices
  • experience in cooking, baking and food preparation
  • ability to supervise junior food service staff
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to follow detailed production work sheets
  • familiarity with health and safety regulations in a kitchen setting

Job Duties

  • prepare meals that are appetizing, appealing and safe to eat
  • prepare, cook, bake and transport food items as specified on the production work sheets
  • follow safe food handling techniques and practices
  • utilize and store leftovers
  • supervise Food Services Technicians in the absence of supervising Cook II and the Director of Dietetics
  • adhere to tuberculosis risk assessment and fingerprint clearance procedures
  • comply with reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing policies
