Job Requirements

  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and shifts
  • Ability to lift weights up to 20-25 pounds
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period
  • Ability to converse in English fluently

Job Qualifications

  • One year of experience working in a kitchen preparing meals in large quantities
  • Completion of a certificate program in culinary arts, restaurant management, or related field
  • Ability to prepare food with minimum waste
  • Ability to train, supervise and assign work to kitchen workers and inmates
  • Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safe food storage practices
  • Ability to communicate clearly and organize work assignments
  • Basic math skills and ability to maintain records
  • Ability to work safely in a high-security jail facility
  • Good moral character, integrity, and dependability

Job Duties

  • Coordinate preparation, cooking and serving of meals for large groups in a central jail kitchen
  • Train and oversee a crew of inmates assigned to kitchen duties
  • Estimate food requirements and instruct inmates in meal preparation
  • Monitor inmate adherence to instructions and kitchen safety practices
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and dining areas
  • Enforce security procedures and report disciplinary issues
  • Use kitchen equipment such as blenders, mixers, grinders, and slicers
