Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or HSE
  • Experience in preparing large quantities of food applying sanitary food preparation standards
  • Knowledge of department safety policies and operational procedures for kitchen equipment
  • Ability to comply with employer and department policies including attendance, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct
  • Ability to count, compute, and make data-driven decisions
  • Capability to maintain clean, sanitized work environments using chemical cleaners properly
  • Skill in serving the public and inmate population diplomatically including handling irate individuals
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team and handle multiple tasks and rapid work periods
  • Physical ability to perform essential job duties including sitting, walking, bending, lifting under 25 pounds, and communication
  • Willingness to work extended and weekend hours

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or HSE
  • Working knowledge of principles of sanitary food preparation
  • Ability to supervise the operation of various industrial kitchen equipment including dishwasher, steamer, food processor, blender, can opener, scales, meat slicer, vertical cutter, oven, mixer, and grill
  • Proficient in standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation for report preparation
  • Knowledge of safety policies and OSHA guidelines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, jail trustees, vendors, and the public respecting cultural and professional ethics
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to multitask
  • Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department records abiding by state requirements
  • Capable of physical tasks including sitting, walking, bending, lifting under 25 pounds, and handling objects

Job Duties

  • Plan and prepare monthly menus and recipes including special meals for detainees with unique dietary needs according to doctors' orders and consultation with dietitian
  • Prepare and serve meals by adjusting food quantities as needed ensuring compliance with local health codes
  • Supervise inmate workers assisting in meal preparation and serving and ensure cooperative and safe work practices
  • Maintain and monitor kitchen inventory, order food and supplies, verify deliveries, and ensure cleanliness of storage areas
  • Secure kitchen utensils and doors to maintain security measures
  • Monitor kitchen equipment for maintenance needs
  • Communicate professionally with Jail Deputies using radio
  • Perform related duties as assigned
