Job Requirements

  • High school diploma preferred
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Previous experience in dietary department preferred
  • Knowledge of food preparation and cooking
  • Ability to follow recipes and portion control
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Availability to work scheduled shifts

Job Qualifications

  • Demonstration of core values: love, kindness, honesty, goodness, fairness, respect
  • High school diploma preferred but at minimum ability to read and write English
  • Previous experience in the dietary department of a health care facility preferred
  • Ability to prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities
  • Knowledge of special diets, seasoning requirements, cooking times, and temperature controls
  • Ability to estimate food quantities, limit waste, and utilize leftovers
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills

Job Duties

  • Handle and prepare food that is palatable, appetizing, and attractive
  • Comply with meal schedules
  • Follow standard recipes but make independent decisions based on experience
  • Understand importance of proper food-handling techniques and hazards
  • Be familiar with seasoning and cooking times required
  • Be aware of cooking characteristics of various cuts of meats, fish, and fowl
  • Estimate quantities of food required and monitor portion control guidelines
  • Prepare foodstuffs by peeling, washing, trimming, and cutting vegetables and fruit
  • wash, cut, debone, and trim meat, fish and fowl
  • Taste, smell, and observe food to ensure conformity with recipes and appearance
  • Serve food according to dietary guidelines, checking trays for completeness and accuracy
  • Cook food by baking, roasting, stewing, and steaming, basting as necessary
  • prepare gravies, stocks, dressings, sauces, and soups
  • Prepare cold meats, sandwiches, griddle cakes, cooked cereals, and beverages
