Job Requirements

  • Ability to read and write English
  • High school diploma preferred
  • Previous experience in healthcare dietary department preferred
  • Ability to prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities
  • Familiarity with special diets and food handling procedures
  • Knowledge of seasoning, cooking times, and temperature controls
  • Ability to estimate quantities and minimize waste

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma preferred but must have ability to read and write English
  • Previous experience in dietary department of healthcare facility preferred
  • Knowledge of preparing and cooking various foods in large quantities
  • Awareness of special diets, seasoning requirements, cooking times, and temperature controls
  • Ability to estimate food quantities, limit waste, and utilize leftovers
  • Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals including meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, fruits, soups, salads, desserts, breads, and pastries
  • Ensure meals are nutritious, balanced, and visually appealing
  • Follow standard recipes and make independent decisions based on experience
  • Adhere to federal and state food safety regulations and company policies
  • Estimate quantities of food needed and control portions to minimize waste
  • Prepare foodstuffs including peeling, washing, trimming, cutting, de-boning, and trimming as necessary
  • Taste and inspect food to ensure quality and recipe conformity
  • Serve food according to dietary guidelines, checking trays for completeness and accuracy
  • Cook food using methods such as baking, roasting, stewing, steaming, and basting
  • Prepare cold meats, sandwiches, griddle cakes, cooked cereals, and beverages
